Dutch F1 driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) has clinched his fourth consecutive world championship title after finishing ahead of his “rival” Lando Norris (UK, McLaren) with a safe points lead of 403-340, even though there are still two races left in this F1 season!
At the recently concluded Las Vegas Grand Prix, “Mad Max” only managed to cross the finish line in fifth place, trailing behind the British duo of George Russell (Mercedes) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who finished first and second, respectively, in challenging windy conditions.
Nevertheless, Verstappen still outperformed his rival from the UK by one position, with Norris finishing sixth overall. Heading into this race, Norris needed to score at least three more points than “Mad Max” to maintain his chances of challenging for the title, but the British driver lacked the speed to make it happen.
The two racers engaged in a fierce battle on the Las Vegas street circuit from the very first corner, chasing each other closely throughout, despite other British drivers surging ahead. Even a plastic bag stuck under Russell’s car could not prevent him from securing the third victory of his career. Yet, the spotlight remained on Max.
“Four-time world champion… Thank you, everyone. This year’s victory was a bit tougher than last season,” Verstappen shared breathlessly over the team radio.
“Mad Max,” who greeted fans and reporters with four fingers raised, now joins the ranks of F1 legends such as Juan Manuel Fangio (Argentina, 1954-1957), Sebastian Vettel (Germany, 2010-2013), and Lewis Hamilton (UK, 2017-2020) — drivers who have all achieved four consecutive F1 world titles.
At just 27 years old (born in 1997 in Flanders, Belgium), with youth, ambition, and a daring driving style, “Mad Max” is widely expected to challenge the record of five consecutive world championships still held by the legendary Michael Schumacher (Germany, 2000-2004).
The next F1 season promises to be highly competitive. However, this season is not over yet. Engine manufacturers are still battling for supremacy, with McLaren currently leading the Constructors’ Championship with 608 points, followed by Ferrari with 584 points and Red Bull in third with 555 points.
The 2024 F1 season still has two races left in the Middle East: the Qatar Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, both taking place in December.
It's been quite a journey for @Max33Verstappen 🦁
